Subject Matters: Chemistry - Everyday applications of acids and bases
Experience a taste of undergraduate and postgraduate study with our Subject Matters lecture series. During these sessions you’ll take part in a taster lecture delivered by one of our current students on a topic related to their degree. After the lecture there’ll also be time for a lively discussion and debate with fellow students.
Most people know a little about acids and bases, whether that’s from science lessons at school or their more exciting depictions in scary films. During this student-led lecture a current London Met Natural Sciences (Chemistry) BSc student, Barry, will explore the topic of acids and bases, how we define them, measure them and, ultimately, how we use them in our bodies and everyday products.
This event will be of interest to prospective undergraduate students who are considering studying, or have a passion for, natural sciences and chemistry.

Join Subeksha, current PhD in Computing student, in this student-led lecture on improving identity resolution and resolving it through the development of artificial intelligence machine based learning. She’ll also explore practical and effective techniques relevant to a variety of contexts in today’s world.
This event will be of interest to prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students who are considering studying, or have a passion for, computing and identity resolution.
During this lecture we’ll:
- Discover the need for applying machine learning techniques to identity resolution
- Explore neural network techniques
- Delve into deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch

Safeguarding, vulnerability and risk: Critical perspectives
Join Dr Robin West, course leader for our Safeguarding and Security MA, to explore critical perspectives of safeguarding, vulnerability and risk. Today, many live in what can be called “vulnerable” times. Society is faced with new categories of vulnerable populations as social trends emerge, often provoking political contestations.
During this lecture we’ll explore what it means to define “vulnerability” and the “vulnerable person”. We’ll also consider some of the challenges faced by policy makers and civil society through a case study of child migrants.

New formulation technologies in drug delivery systems

Join Dr. Bruno Sil dos Santos, module leader for several modules on our Pharmaceutical Science and Drug Discovery Systems MSc to explore part of the development of new drug delivery systems.
